Money Over Power Beyond its Fate Essay Example for Free

Cash Over Power Beyond its Fate Essay Cash is the foundation of all abhorrent. It is the most impressive thing on the planet other than adoration. In some cases cash can demolish love in a fellowship, relationship, or far more atrocious family. Cash can even choose the destiny of a human’s life. â€Å"There is such a great amount about my destiny that I can't control, yet different things do fall under the purview. I can choose how I invest my time, whom I communicate with, whom I share my body and life and cash and vitality with. I can choose what I can peruse and eat and study. I can pick how Im going to respect terrible conditions throughout my life-whether I will consider them to be condemnations or openings. I can pick my words and the manner of speaking wherein I address others. Furthermore, the greater part of everything, I can pick my thoughts.† (Elizabeth Gilbert). In the film, â€Å"No Country for Old Men,† A character by the name of, Llewelyn Moss, is trapped in the cross flames of cash, his activities, his contemplations, and above all else his own destiny. All through the film he is in a steady futile way of life with a man who passes by the name of, Anton Chigurh, who is a contract killer that was recruited to get the cash that greenery had discovered and taken. Ofcourse Moss didn't need to take this cash and in the event that he didn’t he wouldn’t be managing cash, power, or the extremely foreordained destiny of himself all through the film. Chigur likewise acts an official of destiny making up his own principles as he sees fit. Despite the fact that Moss’s character may speak to unrestrained choice he likewise speaks to the destiny that individuals make on their life subsequent to settling on one poor choice. Not exclusively does this cash ruin the destiny of greenery however it generally plays with the destiny of Moss’s spouse, the proprietor of the service station, and the kids who were paid off to stay silent. Some may state that it isn't cash that is the foundation of all malevolent however it is powe r. Money does as well and influence go connected at the hip? With cash you have the ability to control anything you desire, and with the most influence you gain dread in others just as keep on picking up cash from the individuals who dread you. In â€Å"No Country for Old men† there is a consistent fight between the influence cash hangs on oneself just as the destiny of a real existence through cash. The first run through cash decides a person’s destiny isâ during the coin flip at the corner store. When Chigurh understands that the man working at the counter knows where he is from, he currently turns into an observer of who Chigurh is and where he might be from. Perhaps if the man would have recently hushed up in any case as opposed to attempting to utilize the casual banter and be neighborly Chigurh would have never at any point must have the idea of slaughtering the man in any case. But since the man is the individual he is and simply needed to help â€Å"time pass† it pulled a sparkle and got the entire discussion another course. Chigurh then starts to scrutinize the man. What time do you close? Do you remain out back? What time do you rest? The Owner realized he was in a difficult situation and rapidly attempts to rush the man out of his store so he can arrive at some sort of safe zone among him and Chigurh. The discussion proceeds and that’s when it begins to get a touch of intriguing. Chigurh discovers that the man was hitched into the business. He didn’t need it nor did he spare his profit however destiny carried him to that service station and Fate would decide his life in a coin hurl. â€Å"It is fascinating, be that as it may, to take note of the way Chigurh and the Proprietor talk about the stakes of the game. The Proprietor is no uncertainty mindful of the risk hes in, yet is cautiously attempting to decide the idea of the peril. The two of them abstain from discussing the stakes of the game straightforwardly the Proprietor, supposing that he says it, it may occur; Chigurh, in light of the fact that he sees himself as an operator of Fate. Talking about it legitimately would make him liable, and he s not; the fiendishness whirling through the film is greater than this one man† (goodreasonblog.blogspot.com). Destiny had assumed an actual existence sparing job in this man’s life yet did as well cash. The flip the coin would decide his destiny and that is the point at which we directly back regarding the matter of how which assumed a greater job? The coin had all the force, despite the fact that it was an instrument of the destiny the man would decide on his own it despite everything had the force. So can we truly state that his destiny was the explanation this man is as yet alive? In the proprietors great graces he won the coin flip and his life was saved. In any case, imagine a scenario where he had lost that coin flip. Do you truly think Chigurgh would have slaughtered an honest man since he seen where he was from? Well that question could have been replied toward the finish of the film when Chigurgh appears at Moss’s spouse, Carla Jean’s, house. Carla Jean winds up situated opposite the unfeeling Chigurh. Chigurh had guaranteed Moss that he would permit Carla Jean to live if the cash was come back to Chigurh. Heâ assures Moss that it is the best arrangement he b rings to the table. Greenery would have kicked the bucket whichever way yet Chigurh guarantees Moss that he would not hurt his better half as long as Moss tuned in to him. Obviously deciding the destiny of himself and his better half Moss decides not to tune in to Chigurhs orders. It is extremely tragic now in the film since we as a whole know Carla Jean is going to bite the dust. The influence cash has on an individual is very sickening in this film since we see that Moss genuinely picked his cash over his better half. Chigurh discloses to Carla Jean that Moss could have spared her yet the influence of cash had taken over Moss’s psyche and greenery settled on a choice for them both to endure. â€Å"You don’t need to do this† Carla jean tells Chigurh. Chigurh then decides to offer her a similar coin flip choice that he had recently offered the fortunate elderly person at the service station. In contrast to the elderly person, Carla Jean won't call it when asked, significantly after the coin had been flipped and was simply holding on to be called â€Å"The coin don’t have nothing to do with it †it’s just you.† Chigurh again brings up that he â€Å"got here a similar route as the coin did.† Fate carried him to her home due to her better half and the influence of cash is the thing that would murder Carl Jean at long last. Not just doe Chigurh take a stab at deciding the destiny of others, He likewise attempts to decide the destiny of himself. Toward the finish of the film when Chigurh is hit he pays a kid to stay silent and act like nothing at any point occurred. For what reason would Chigurh do this? He is utilizing his cash to decide his destiny. Chigurh realizes that the lower his profile the less possibilities he will have of getting captured and going to jail for the criminal behavior he has had going on. All things considered none of these individuals needed to do what they did. These were the decisions they made and thus, destiny had another contort on their life. Greenery didn't need to take the cash yet he knew with more cash came the satisfaction him and his significant other had been working for. Possibly he did it because of affection or perhaps he was simply being voracious we will never truly know. Indeed, even Chigurh had the decision to not murder every one of those individuals due to Moss. Those individuals who had passed on was a foreordained destiny that was out of their control. Destiny, in this film, clearly came in more than one sub classification. The cash implied power and the force controlled ones destiny. â€Å"Every second in your life is a turning and each one a picking. Some place you settled on a decision. All followed to this. The bookkeeping is trustworthy. The shape is drawn. No lineâ can be eradicated. I had no confidence in your capacity to move a coin to your offering. How right? A people way through the world only occasionally changes and considerably more only here and there will it change unexpectedly. What's more, the state of your way was obvious from the beginning.† (coen 259) http://goodreasonblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/no-nation for-elderly people men-coin-hurl scene.html http://www.goodreads.com/cites/tag/destiny

The Impacts on the National Policies

Question: Describe about influence of air-Power and space-Based capabilities on geopolitical and geostrategic theories. Answer: The impacts on the national policies, military strategies, and geopolitics were foreseen due to the arrival of airplane. The establishment of the air power was influenced by General Giulio Douhet who was much anxious in utilizing an alternative strategy to defeat his enemies. General Douhet highlighted his vision of air power in his book The command of the Air (Dolman 1999). He granted the air power as the most important factor, which can be used as the strong weapon for avoiding the trenches and battlefield. He also pointed out that this air power can attack the centre point of the opponents. According to his perception, air power is the most relevant way to bomb the infrastructure, factories, states, and make the enemies surrender eventually. The theories presented by Douhet are also specifying the followership of many enthusiastic people during interwar in the year of 1919-1940. The significance of air power created the recognisable impacts on the policy makers in colonial office and the members of the British Royal Air force (RAF). The air power has the greater control in protect line of the communication channel, which signifies the extension of the British Power. It was seen that both the British and American rulers adopted Douhets strategy to bring the opponents to their knees. During the World War II, Britain focused on mass-bombing whereas Americans tried to destroy the industrial and weapon production with the help of such air power. The first Gulf War highlighted the impact of Air power on battlefield. During the end of the century, the NATO air force finished the conflict over Kosovo and it did not require a large-scale of ground operations (Harter 2006). However, it can be stated that the emergence of air power created the special significance in establishing the lines of communication. However, in this week course, it is observed that the potentiality of the air power has been reducing the geographical constraints. The lesion has been signifying the use of the cautions to limit power of air and space. The theories are specifying the air power as the decisive weapon that can be used to defeat the enemies. Three major aspects of the air power have been specified in this week activity. Firstly, the emergence of the air power affected the capabilities of the great powers (Wang 2009). Secondly, it is suggesting the relevant geographic dimensions, which can lead the decisive power of air and space. The required infrastructure, proper geographical features, and the significance of the sea powers are also justified in this segment. Thirdly, the obtained idea from the book highlighted the featured ways through which the geopolitical relations were affected. Due to the arrival of the GPS system, the air power became much accurate (Sage 2008). The space-based weapons started focusing on the proper geographical location where the competition would be more powerful. On the contrary, the previous geopolitical competition was based on the important landmarks. Hence, it can be inferred that the emergence of the air power brought the drastic changes in the geopolitical theories. References Dolman, Everett C. To what extent do you agree with this statement Essay Example

To what extent do you agree with this statement? Paper Mercutio is one of the plays funniest characters that always has something to say or to joke about. Right from where we first start to get to know Mercutio we can see that he is a humorous character, constantly talking and joking, mostly about sex. At the beginning of the play we meet Mercutio at a party held at the Capulets house. We immediately see that he is sick of Romeo acting in a lovesick manner towards Rosaline and basically tells him to forget about her and go and have sex, If love be rough with you, be rough with love: Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down. Mercutio is so sick of the way Romeo is acting that he later teases Romeo calling him a liar and saying that dreamer often do lie. When Romeo changes this comment about and says that dreamer do lie, but they lie in bed whilst dreaming things true, Mercutio must have seem a challenge for a battle of the wits and he starts of on a huge, impressive speech using his wit, poetic talent and great mind to prove his po int to Romeo. Sometimes she gallops oer a courtiers nose and then he of smelling out a suit. Oer ladies lips, who straight dream on kisses dream Oer lawers fingers, who straight dream on fees;.. Mercutio is almost always talking about sex, changing some of the most innocent things into sexual references. Sometime his rude sense of humour doe not score him point with his friends or the people around him but other time it is appreciated as he brings light and laugher to somewhat depressing conversations. Mercutio uses a lot of puns and paradoxes in his speaking but that occurs in most of the characters in Shakespear, he is lively and is not afraid to speak his mind. When they meet the maid he openly calls her a hoar and ugly. When she asks for her fan he says: Good Peter, to hide her face, for her fans the fairer face. Even when he is dieing Mercutio stays witty and its not until to late that we realise he is really dieing. He jokes about it saying, Ask for me to-morrow and you shall find me a grave man and They have made worms meat of me. Using puns to cover up the seriousness of his situation. He could make you see sense and opened your eyes. He spoke his mind and was fun to be round and listen to which is why the audience would have loved him. For that reason many people put down the killing off of Mercutio to the fact that he might have taken over the play but at the same time no matter how fun he was the love affair between two lovers that can never be together would have been much more interesting to me. This is why I believe that Mercutio did not die to stop him taking over the play but died to prove a point. Mercutio is killed standing up for his beloved friend Romeo and when he gets stabbed although he does not seem that hurt, he knows he is dieing and uses his last words to put a curse on the Capulets and Montagues. A plague o both your houses! I think this part was added because in those days they were very superstitious and believed in curses and bad luck. With putting the curse on the families he dooms them to pay with something or someone that they both love, Romeo and Juliet. If Mercutio had not been killed that would not have been said and maybe Romeo and Juliet may not have died. I think that he died to show everyone that the fighting between the two families had gone on long enough and if he couldnt teach them from earth he would teach them from the grave. If Mercutio did not die the jokes and laugher would have lived on but it would have only prevented the characters from seeing the seriousness of their situations and the consciences of their actions.

Can You Take the ACT Without Geometry

Can You Take the ACT Without Geometry SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Have you not taken a geometry class yet, or do you feel like geometry's not your strong suit? If that's the case, how well can you do on the ACT without a strong knowledge of geometry? Let's approach this by first considering how many of the math questions on the ACT cover geometry and, its close relative, trigonometry. How Much Geometry and Trigonometry Are On the ACT? The math section on the ACT asks 60 questions in 60 minutes. The exact number of geometry questions varies between 35% and 45%, so you might encounter between 21 and 27 geometry questions, a significant portion. 5% to 10% more cover trigonometry, which might involve relations in right triangles or functions. This equates to about 3 to 6 more questions. To break all of geometry down into more specific topics: Coordinate Geometry, 15-20%, 9 - 12 questions Plane Geometry, 20-25%, 12 - 15 questions Trigonometry, 5-10%, 3-6 questions Total, 40-55%, 24 - 33 questions The remainder of the ACT math sections covers algebra, including pre-algebra, elementary algebra, and intermediate algebra. Let's take a closer look at the concepts covered within geometry and trigonometry. Even if you haven't taken a geometry class, you might have a working or intuitive understanding of some of these concepts. What Concepts In Geometry and Trigonometry Are Covered? Coordinate Geometry Coordinate geometry covers the following concepts: Graphing and relations between equations and graphs, including points, lines, polynomials, circles, and other curves Graphing inequalities Slope Parallel and perpendicular lines Distance Midpoints Conics For example, the following problem tests your understanding of graphing and distance, as well as a basic understanding of what a rectangle is, which overlaps with the next subtopic: plane geometry. Answer: F Plane Geometry Plane geometry questions cover Properties and relations of plane figures, including angles and relations among perpendicular and parallel lines Properties of shapes, like circles, triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids Transformations Proofs and proof techniques Volume Applications of geometry to three dimensions For instance, the following problem asks you to draw on your understanding of parallel lines and properties of shapes, including both angles and relations among parallel lines. Answer: D Trigonometry The trigonometry questions might cover these concepts: Trigonometric relations in right triangles Values and properties of trigonometric functions Graphing trigonometric functions Modeling using trigonometric functions Trigonometric identities Solving trigonometric equations The following example problem tests your understanding of trigonometric relations in a right triangle. Answer: C As you can see, there are several subtopics within each of these areas that might be covered by questions on the ACT. If you have little to no knowledge of geometry or trigonometry, how well can you expect to score on the math section of the ACT? What Score Can You Get Without Geometry or Trigonometry? Let's say you skipped every single geometry question on the ACT and answered all the remaining math questions perfectly. In this scenario, the highest score you could get (out of a maximum 36) would be between 21 and 24. This depends on exactly how many geometry questions there were. However, if you're not familiar with geometry, it's probably safe to assume you don't have much experience in trigonometry, either. So if you skipped all the geometry and trigonometry questions, while answering the remaining ones correctly, the highest score you could get would be somewhere between 18 and 23. Where exactly did I get these estimates? Take a look at the score chart below to see how your raw score gets scaled to a score between 1 and 36 on the ACT. Remember your raw score is simply the number of questions you answer correctly. I cut this scoring chart off at 13, but it is possible to score as low as 1. If you're interested in the full scoring charts of all sections of the ACT, check out this article here. Raw Score Scaled Score Raw Score Scaled Score 58-60 36 38 24 57-58 35 40 23 55-56 34 36-37 22 54 33 34-35 21 53 32 33 20 52 31 31-32 19 50-51 30 29-30 18 49 29 27-28 17 47-48 28 24-26 16 45-46 27 19-23 15 43-44 26 15-18 14 41-42 25 12 - 14 13 As you can tell from the math questions and scoring charts, geometry and trigonometry really are a significant part of the math section of the ACT. So if you haven't taken these courses in school before you're sitting for the ACT, what should you do? ACT Math Takeaways Even if you've never taken a class in these areas, you can still help yourself out a huge amount by studying on your own. Test prep materials are really helpful in breaking down each concept and giving you plenty of focused practice in applying these skills. Some questions, especially those regarding shapes and coordinate geometry, may even be intuitive. You'll likely be able to answer several questions with just a basic knowledge of geometry and some practice. The scenariodescribed above, where you skip all these questions, really never needs to occur, even for students who haven't taken a geometry class yet in their high school career. You might also want to consider taking the SAT instead of the ACT. The SATalso requires your understanding of geometry, but it actually does not cover trigonometry. This article gives you the full breakdown of how much geometry is on the SAT. Brazil - Individual vs Collective Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Brazil - Individual vs Collective - Assignment Example The Brazilian people also embraced the European cultures and innovations that significantly shaped the local civilization in the country. This has ultimately made the present day Brazil a fusion of different cultures making it complex and distinct. With a population of nearly 190 million people, most of them being whites of Italian, Polish, and Portuguese origin, Brazilians mainly follow the Catholic doctrine. The Portuguese occupation of the country for many years has also influenced the Brazilian official language that is Portuguese, although there are exists a small fraction of natives who speak their languages (Valenà §a, 2006). Brazilians value the family unit and its structure hence families are generally big usually even comprising of extended family members who share a closeness with each other and offer support and any help to one another each time the need arises. Brazilians distinguish each other by class according to how wealthy one is with regard to his or her money flow as well as the person colour. Individuals from darker ethnicities are more disadvantaged in the country. The immense disparities in wage brackets tend to create an enormous gap between the locals leading to a lack of interaction between those from the lower economic scale and the rich or upper-class category. Brazilian women are also usually delegated to lesser paying jobs like nursing and teaching. The people of Brazil are known to be affectionate with women kissing each other's cheeks as a sign of salutation and men shaking hands firmly. Brazilian businesspersons will normally first have an amicable relationship with each other before engaging in business deals that are prone to last a long time because of the fact that they put a lot of weight on the people they are dealing with. They are particularly keen to deal with people and not companies hence the need for a personal acquaintance with business partners.

Control Mechanisms - the Disney Company Essay Example for Free

Control Mechanisms the Disney Company Essay Control Mechanisms The Disney Company Bonita Johnson, Christi Cavanaugh, Gloria Aguilar, Hillary McCabe, Jeffrey Harriman MGT 330 January 9, 2012 Susan Mills Control Mechanisms The Disney Company In more than eight decades The Disney Company continues to be one of the largest media and entertainment corporations in the world. Founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy Disney as a small animation studio, today The Walt Disney Company is one the largest Hollywood studios and owns 11 theme parks, two water parks, and several television networks including the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The name Walt Disney has and always will be preeminent in the realm of family entertainment. Additionally, The Disney Company continues proudly to provide quality entertainment for all family members across American and around the world. The Walt Disney Company did not become one of the largest entertainment corporations in world without developing secure control mechanisms. The Disney Company has earned its reputation by tight control and although control pervades the company, Disney’s control mechanisms are not considered heavy-handed or condescending. This paper will examine that although The Disney Company enforces strict control mechanisms within its organization, it is also an organization independent in its thinking and approaches. The Walt Disney Company has always, and continues to use control mechanisms to help regulate policy and procedures which contribute toward effectively achieving organizational goals (The Walt Disney Company, 2008). The Disney Company has been widely successful both nationally and internationally for over 70 years primarily through successful implementation of control mechanisms throughout all aspects of the organization (The Walt Disney Company, 2008). The four types of control mechanisms that best serve The Disney Company would be budgetary, financial, management audit, and bureaucratic. The bureaucratic control function is the lifeline of Disney’s corporate structure because it provides the company’s ethical standards, mission statement, and organizational structure. Moreover, bureaucratic control is a constructive system used to influence subordinates and structure reward systems. Budgetary control is a method used by The Disney Company to bring their vision to life. Budgetary control is detailed, step-by-step documentation of a company’s accomplishments or deficiencies by contrasting data. The Disney Company has implemented many ways of using budgetary control before building or acquiring any new real estate. Management audit controls are equally important to The Disney Company particularly if expansion is in their future. The Disney Company uses both an internal and external audit system. Through management audits The Disney Company has a set checks and balances system to ensure all assets are properly maintain and nothing is compromised (The Walt Disney Company, 2008). Financial controls are just as vital as budgetary controls with a company such as Disney. The marketing strategies that Disney employs help to produce revenue for the company thereby stabilizing assets and liabilities. Financial controls also help to make it possible for Disney to build more parks and resorts in the future. These four control mechanisms enforced by The Disney Company helps provide the company with a format in sustaining the company in a profitable direction. Equally important, these four components of Disney’s control mechanisms are the key in keeping the organization focused, and diverting away from any unethical misconduct from their employees.

Moxy Fruvous :: Music Musical Essays

Moxy Fruvous From their earliest gigs as buskers (street performers) in downtown Toronto, the Canadian pop band Moxy Fruvous has attracted attention with an energetic blend of tight harmonies and witty social commentary (Bush). The band’s first album, 1994’s Bargainville, highlights both these qualities, casting a skewed glance at topics ranging from video stores to the Gulf War. One of the disc’s highlights, â€Å"Darlington Darling,† examines blue-collar love and tells a tale of frustration, both economic and romantic. The first verse introduces the song’s speaker, who works on an assembly line in an auto plant, where he â€Å"slaps on† plugs and distributor caps for Mercuries (1-2). However, we quickly discover that the speaker is unable even to afford the cars he helps to build, noting that â€Å"I can drive. . . but this car’s made for you† (4). This point is underscored by the chorus. As the speaker says that he’d like to buy a car or cars for his love, his wishes are countered by the economic realities of his situation: I’d like to buy her one – (Where you gonna get the money, son?) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . An’ I’d like to buy her more Than this blue collar can afford (5-6, 11-12). In the second verse, the speaker’s situation is contrasted with the case of a co-worker who is doing a little better. â€Å"Chipper down the line† sycophantically plies his boss with egg nog at the company Christmas party (13-14). In return, Chipper gets a raise, which he uses to pay for a vacation cottage/â€Å"love nest† on Lake Scugog (a rather unprepossessing man-made lake near Toronto)(â€Å"Lake Scugog†). Although Chipper is willing to let his coworker use the cabin for a weekend, the speaker’s girlfriend is working for nearly the entire weekend (16). Once again, the economic realities of the working class (weekend shifts) interfere with dreams of leisure and love. Also worth noting here is that, during the solo that follows the second chorus, the listener can here a voice berating Chipper, telling him to â€Å"Get back to work, you greaseball!† Apparently, even toadying for the boss only goes so far, and even the better-paid workers are subject to verbal abuse. After the solo and another repeat of the chorus, a final half-verse focuses on the speaker’s love. We learn that she lives â€Å"half a mile from the cooling towers† of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, a nuclear power plant near Toronto (â€Å"Darlington†).
